Bhut Jolokia has its origin in Assam, North East India, and it's known to be the first chili in the world to exceed 1.000.000 Scoville Heat units. It's more than five time as hot as Habaneros and more than 125 times hotter than jalapeños.
Bhut Jolokia is translated "Ghost Peppers." Apparently because the spirit will shortly leave your body when eating this tremendously hot chili. The taste is sweet and fruity.
If you want your Bhut Jolokia chili peppers to be supremely hot, the chili plant has to grow in a warm place - maybe in a greenhouse or on a sunny porch. It's important that the plant won't be exposed to cold. The best time to plant the chili seeds is when the night temperature won't get below 8 degrees celsius. Instead you can grow the seeds into small plants indoor, and then move the chili plants to a sunny porch when the temperature is warmer.
Like Habaneros the Bhut Jolokia chili grows slowly, and the germination can take up to 3 weeks. The plant will grow up to 120 cm (47 inches) in height, and the chili peppers will be up to 8.5 cm (3.5 inches) long. When ripe the chili pepper is deep red.
