Jacaranda Mimosifolia is originally from South America, but because of the beautiful blue flowers, you'll find the tree in most parts of the world. Especially in southern Europe the tree often grows in streets and parks. In the subtropics the tree can get more than 10-15 meters tall.
Jacaranda Mimosifolia is also known as The Fern Tree as the leaves have the same shape as a fern.
The tree blooms from early spring, and the blue, violet flowers will last an incredibly long. The flowers look like small tinkerbells. The bark is thin and grayish brown. On younger trees the bark is completely smooth, but as the tree ages, the bark becomes more scaly.
The tree can easily grow indoor in a large pot. Indoor the Jacaranda Mimosifolia rarely gets taller than 1 meter. You can also prune the tree so it can be used for Bonsai tree.
Jacaranda Mimosifolia don't tolerate degrees below zero. It can, however, survive temperatures below zero - but only very briefly. You can grow your Jacaranda Mimosifolia seeds year round. If you soak the seeds in lukewarm water for 4 -12 hours, germination will be promoted. Sprinkle the seeds on moist soil in a pot. The seeds should be covered by a very thin layer of soil. Make sure the soil doesn't dry out. The seeds will start to germinate in a few weeks.
Apply fertilizer once a month.
